[Program of activities] | [How to participate]
Berlin, Germany Haus der Kulturen der WeltHouse of the Worlds Cultures 1 - 10 December 2001
In 1997 Berlin hosted an exhibition commemorating the advances in 100 years of gay liberation. The exhibition won high regard throughout the world. In 2001 a new exhibition will focus on the lives of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people from countries where their human rights are questioned or ignored. Their problems are especially serious in countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. For two weeks the Berlin exhibition will make LGBT people visible where invisibility is the rule, will spotlight where we are persecuted, arrested and even killed, will seek to highlight the creativity and richness of LGBT communities in those countries where they are not allotted credibility. To do this successfully, we need your help. Please spread the following information as widely as possible, especially to your friends and families in countries where LGBT lives must be lived in secrecy. The Festival is being organized by Rosa von Praunheim, Mahide Lein and the Queer World Working Group, formed by members of the ILGA, Amnesty International, various coordinators of lesbian and gay projects in Berlin and journalists of LGBT media.
